bringing back an oldie

This is from 2 Octobers ago when I was on the Emergen-C Pink Tour.

how perfect is this? I'm in a sea of sugar, while educating the youth of america about breast cancer prevention.

i love candy.

Rocket Science

I saw Rocket Science last night and I loved it! It's an indie comedy about this stuttering high school boy who joins the debate team when approached by champion debater Ginny, who he has a major crush on. Hal's older brother is kleptomaniac with a terrible temper but a big heart and is one of my favorite characters.

I recommend Rocket Science.  It was so funny! I laughed out loud so much, and i hardly ever really laugh at movies. I feel like everyone has a little bit of Hal in them, some (me) more than others.

Writer/Director Jeffrey Blitz said it best when he described Hal as "A character that's the master of nothing in his world." What a perfect little quote.

and i still get excited!

I still get so excited and think how freaking amazing and ridiculous it is that i got this pass and watched John Mayer do his soundcheck and perform at the Beacon Theatre for Fuse.

every time i look at it i just kind of stop and take a deep breath.

and every time i wear my purple heart tank i get a little bit mad at storytellers because thats the shirt i wore to the taping that got me super excited then suuuuper bummed.

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

http://www.sonyclassics.com/theimaginariumofdoctorparnassus/

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present-day. It tells the story of Dr. Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a traveling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. An inveterate gambler, thousands of years ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick, in which he won immortality. Centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his daughter reached her 16th birthday, she would become the property of Mr Nick. Valentina is now rapidly approaching this 'coming of age' milestone and Dr. Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr. Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr. Parnassus promises his daughter's hand in marriage to the man that helps him win."

i want to see this.

I'm going to see Up In The Air tonight.

billboards top 25 songs of the year mashup

i absolutely love this.

stylist wanted.

now you know i love you, but really? where did you even find those? lets go shopping together.

friday night lights

Man, i just spent the entire weekend watching Friday Night Lights. I started season 1 maybe a week ago, and i've worked all the way through season 3. thats all i did while i was home in harrison for xmas.

season 1 was so great. season 2 was depressing, but also unfinished due to the writers strike.

season 3 picked up again, but the ending wasn't a big happy ending. I'm not really looking forward to new characters if they choose to introduce them as leads. i like the people they've introduced us to already.

thats the problem with shows set in high schools. people get older. they graduate.

i recommend this show.

i didnt get the big whoop about taylor kitsch aka tim riggins until now. total babe once you watch this show.

streeter was/is one of my favorite characters though. and matts such a sweetheart. i love him.

eek season 4. im very nervous for you. not even excited, just nervous.

Ke$ha

i like her. i was very unsure at first.

she does her thang. she don't care. love her attitude. and she's not a biotch.

got her album "Animal" at work today. listened twice. its fun. silly. is she real? i sometimes wonder. so much glitter.

if you just smile

what can i possibly look like to everyone else? do i look like im in a constant state of depression?

people are ALWAYS telling me to smile.

im not upset, im not sad, im fine. i just dont walk around with a constant smile plastered on my face.

years later, i still have flashbacks to this little number:

How did this happen? who were their handlers? do they own mirrors? was there any denim left in the world that year?

so many questions.

Baby Wigs!

got it from Carla, who got it from here: http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-new-disturbing-trend-baby-wigs/

New Disturbing Trend: Baby Wigs

New Disturbing Trend: Baby WigsSandraRose.com

SandraRose.com featured this sad story of a mother (her name was kept anonymous, probably better for her safety) who got really sick and tired of her baby being so … bald. “It’s never too early for my baby to start looking glamorous like Beyonce!” said the mother. What did she decide to do about the problem? She gave her kid some long, luxurious locks, natch. Don’t worry, she didn’t get her a weave, which could be painful and dangerous for baby’s head. She got her a less dangerous, yet still fiercely fashionable, lace front wig. “I wouldn’t be caught dead without my lace front and my baby won’t either,” this doting mother explained. OK. I’m not laughing anymore. Does this scare the crap out of anyone else? I don’t know whether to cry or call Child Protective Services. What if this trend catches on? Then what’s next? Thong diapers? Adam Lambert is a sweetheart

I got to meet him tonight and told him I was a big fan and can't stop listening to the album. And that it got me to go to the gym, which i hadnt hit up in about 2 months. He was like yeah! its a good workout album, just skip the 3 ballads. I was like no! Power walk!

He was really sweet.

I worked jingle ball tonight, just in the press area not the show part. john mayer did no press :( but it was fun!

john mayer storytellers taping

We get there. we check in. they tell me i might ask a question. they seat me and the other couple of question people first with our guests. I was in the 4th row, center. I was the alternate question.

They come up to me after everyone else is seated and tell me i'm going to be asking my question to John Mayer tonight and move us to the 2nd row, center.

I was shaking. so nervous. me? talking to JOHN MAYER? he's going to look at me and talk to ME?!?!

i rehearsed my question a million times with Maura, and i got it down perfectly.

The question round comes along, they go through everyone they had EXCEPT ME!!!!!!!!!! oh my gosh!!!!

I was soooooo disappointed. It was such an amazing taping and an awesome event, and all i can think of is how they got me stoked out of my mind and dropped me like a hot potato. What the heck?!?!

but i was in the 2nd row, and we made so much eye contact. At one point i was singing the wrong words while he was looking at me.

i love him. so much. i need to meet him. tonight could have held one of the most amazing moments ever.

Here was my question they wanted me to ask:

You went to Berkley but left before graduation to pursue your career in music. Was it easy to leave or did you feel there was more to learn at school?

adam lambert

this album cover is so amazing. and so is this album. he got me, im totally interested in this man. hes like a boy lady gaga.

the first track sounds like it was a 2009 pop/rock song written for and sung by freddie mercury.

the 2nd song sounds like the electric dream machine collaborated with him.

the rest of the album is fun. i listened to it 3 times today. twice at the gym.

yeah, thats right. the gym. don't get too excited though, i only power walked. i didnt want my legs to hurt bc i have to wear heels on thursday.

Monday, December 7, 2009

whatever works

Saw "Whatever Works" on the plane, as well as "The Time Travelers Wife" and "500 Days of Summer."

I really liked WW! its a Woody Allen film, which in the past I have found I generally dislike. But I loved Larry Davids super cynical, overly paranoid character. and Even Rachel Wood was surprisingly excellent as the naive and impressionable young lady from the south.

I recommend it.

def gaining back all the john mayer weight i lost. I was so busy during john mayer week i didnt have time to eat a full meal at anytime, so my clothes were all loose by the end of the week. it ruled.

Italy is pretty.

tomorrow is luciniano, then back to rome to pick up parloo. then i dunno.

got some pretty sweet rainboots here, but i need help taking them off. i'm in trouble if nobody is around to pull them off my legs.

Last time

I went to see John Mayer again tonight! at the Ed Sullivan (David Letterman) Theatre.

David won tickets via twitter.

this was probably my favorite out of the THREE john mayer shows i went to in FOUR days! so nuts. they were all so amazing, i was so close for all of them. i can't get enough of this guy. never get enough of him.

i want a hug from him so badly.

http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show/video/index_webcast.php?vs=Live%20on%20Letterman&webcast=john_mayer

they're streaming the show on cbs.com you should watch.

the people we were with were hilarious. thats probably why it was my favorite out of the 3.
He stared at the girl next to me for a good 10 seconds, then she broke eye contact because she couldnt do it it anymore. soooo funny! she was freaking. she's like "oh my god i think i just got pregnant"

loved her.

going to italy tomorrow.

john mayer night finally happened

this is a pic he took during soundcheck. you can see me sitting to the right of the mic. black shirt, gray scarf. neat!

he played his live fuse show. it was fantastic. i stood all the way up front next to the stage bc nobody stopped me. i watched his soundcheck and sat in the front, the room was basically empty, it was pretty surreal.

the night before i saw him at music hall of williamsburg playing a myspace secret show, which was insane. when he plays gravity, i get the chills so badly.

didnt get to meet him. we were going to, and then we left the venue.

Monday, November 16, 2009

wear earplugs

WEAR EARPLUGS every time you go to a concert and be careful in recording studios.

My tinnitus gets so bad sometimes i can't even handle it. it drives me absolutely nuts. tonight to the point of tears.

I always research it, hoping somebody found a way to cure it. there's nothing. the cells in my inner ear got destroyed and i can't get them back.

from http://www.stopsnoringnewyork.com/nyc_snoring_doctor/tinnitus_treatments_newyork.htm:

"Inner Ear: This is usually the site of most cases of persistent tinnitus. The delicate nerve endings (hair cells) that detect the vibrations of sound in the fluid of the inner ear are readily injured or destroyed by insults such as loud noise, blows to the hear, certain viral infections, certain medicines, such as aspirin) and once they are lost they are not replaced. Over a person’s lifetime, the gradual destruction of these fragile cells leads to a progressive hearing loss with age (presbycusis) that is frequently accompanied by tinnitus. It seems that the decreased input from the sensory cell allows the nerve activity to be unregulated, and the brain interprets this as a sound. This is the tinnitus that the patient perceives. It is the inner ear tinnitus that is so hard to treat because we cannot restore the missing hair cells. The only way this will be fully cured is to regenerate these cells with stem cell treatment.

Nevertheless, anything and everything has been tried, but there is NO treatment that is truly successful. Lidocaine might temporarily reduce tinnitus though its reduction of nerve activity, but it has to be given intravenously. Lipoflavinoids have been touted as helpful, but are scientifically unproven. Melatonin has also been touted as being helpful. The main problem with tinnitus is that its constant presence emotionally upsets the patient and forces the sufferer to concentrate on the sound itself, thus making it seem louder and louder. This is the same thing that happens with pain, and tinnitus can be rightfully considered a kind of pain. Methods of reducing the brain’s focus on the sound are therefore helpful: biofeedback, anxiety reducing drugs, yoga and meditation. While they don’t eliminate the tinnitus, these techniques make it less bothersome so that the suffering is reduced. Another helpful treatment is to give an external sound in the ear to “mask” the tinnitus. This can be in the form of a noise machine, the “white noise” static from a radio, or even a fan. There are tinnitus maskers available as well that are placed in the ear and look like a hearing aid. Tinnitus Retraining Centers have also appeared in various areas and rely on retraining the patients' brains so they treat tinnitus similar to the way they treat the sound of a refrigerator in their kitchen, which they are normally not aware of, and when they do hear the sound, it is not bothersome. The method retrains reflexes involving connections of the auditory with the limbic and autonomic nervous systems, and retrains the subconscious part of the auditory pathway to block the tinnitus signal. TRT always consists of two components: intensive one-on-one directive counseling, and sound therapy, most frequently with the use of sound generators (which emit low level of broad-band noise), following a specific habituation protocol. Tinnitus should never be masked in TRT, because one can never habituate signal one cannot detect."

I went to my first hockey game today. Rangers at MSG. They lost. I dont remember who they were playing. i feel so bad for the goalies when the other team scores.

i like new things. a lot.

today was great. had brunch at lil frankies with ko and laura. then visited veronica at her gallery, which ruled. then went shopping.

I got this really neat necklace. its long and gold and has 3 gold paper airplanes on it! i love it.

Then I got this super cute owl dress:

Then Ko and I went to make our own perfumes at this place located at 21 E. 7th street. Don't know what its called. New York Fragrance maybe? I don't know, but the girl was amazing! You told her what you like and she pulled all these scents and mixes them together to give you exactly what you want, then you name it!

I was feeling really under pressure to name it and I couldn't think of anything, so i just called it "I Smell Good" and im really upset by that now. i could have thought of something way better. Ko named hers after a song, "Blow Away" or something really cute like that.

Then I got a cork board to put my longer necklaces on. I covered it with this cool tissue paper I had and hung it on my wall:

gooooood day!

Went to Pink's Funhouse tour tonight....HOLY SMOKES!!! she was absolutely amazing. The production was freaking fantastic, and her voice...man her voice!

the ending was beautiful, with the glitter and the water. so good.

I went with Tara and we were very very very close. We were on the floor in the seats, and she had a catwalk thing going on, so when she sang at the end of that she was basically right in front of us.

I want to sit in every section at MSG. starting a bucket list.

Pink rules.

their new haircuts look soooo cute! holy cow! Alex T. Kent was my favorite.

Also, I submitted questions for Steven to ask John Mayer when he interviews him on Friday. I'll be super excited if he answers something I asked.

So at the Say Anything show, this weirdo older guy comes up to me and Allison and says he works there, and he'd give us 2 drink tickets each if he laid down on his stomach and we stood on his back for the set!!!! WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!?!! it was so creepy and weird.

Monday, September 14, 2009

Just watched the vmas, they were good this year. crazy and weird people. kanye is a douche. taylor is cute. beyonce is nice. lil mama is nuts. lady gaga doesn't come from this planet. perez hilton makes me want to punch his face in every time i see him. green day rule. gabe should have never left midtown. the all american rejects thing was weird. i didnt like pinks outfit during her odd performance.

...i had a dream about john mayer last night, that he came to the studio and i was interviewing him but i didnt know i was interviewing him until he walked through the door. then i got really excited. during the interview i said something really funny and he was laughing a lot, but i cant remember what i said.

then i woke up, and went back to sleep and had a second dream about him. this time i was the talent relations point person at a venue he was playing at, so i just hung around him the whole time. watched him rehearse. it was awesome. i love him.

Jay-Z's MSG show tonight, Answer The Call, aired on Fuse live tonight and it was soooo good! so many special guests, including the fantastic John Mayer.

Beyonce performed, Rihanna, Kanye, Pharell, Mary J. Blige, Diddy, Santigold...and more. I had no clue all those people would be there, and on stage. John Mayer rules. I loooove him.

i experimented with the time out ny personals tonight. i emailed someone and invited them to bingo on funday sunday. i'll keep you updated.

this weekend was very fun. sunday night bingo rules. we won 5 out of 7 games. i won a book with the word elephant in the title. then we went to play flip cup at boss tweeds. i got home at around 3:30 am. I'm living my college life now.

found it!

i have been searching for this lullaby song i really love for over a year, knowing only that it was "sing a song of sixpence" and it was a female singer. try googling that one. yeah. it sucks.

but i actually freaking found it miraculously. it's by Sophie Barker on her album "Lullaby". I love this song. I ordered the album. it'll make me sleep.

500 days of summer was really good, i loved it. That's what sparked my search for the song. another song was familiar in that movie.

went to see it for $6.50. AMAZING. i love living here. love love love.

nick is nuts

thanks luis, for telling me to check this out.

i was a fan of his disney stuff when sang both Jasmine AND Aladdin. This is equally confusing/fantastic:

I love Wenesdays

Dodgeball was so fun tonight! I got into it, even though I got out really fast each time.

After we went to the bar, Boss Tweed's, and I played flip cup for the first time. The first chug I spilled half the beer all over myself, but my side won all but one time! I rule. Also, i was drinking beer tonight. I think I'll only drink it after dodgeball. or when i play flip cup.

It's funny I'm playing all these games now and I never played them in college.

The other thing I love about Wed - Glee and So You Think You Can Dance :)

I'm avoiding unpacking the rest of my stuff. Also I lost my curtain rod.

britney was just ehhh for me. she's so over it, it felt like she was forced to go out on stage and perform. she didnt really care. so that was disappointing.

but im so glad i went!

blink 182

Today at work the two guests we had were so fantastic. Kristinia DeBarge is such a sweetheart, I love her. and Stephan Jenkins is hilarious! He's nuts. I liked them both a lot. guests arent always so appreciative and so friendly like they were. loved them.

I went to the blink show tonight and saw weezer for the first time. i liked them live, rivers is so funny. their backdrop ruled.

blink was never very good live, and they still aren't that great, and their banter back and forth wasn't as funny as it had been in the past. And they didn't play enough older songs. but i still love the heck out of them. Travis's drum solo at the encore is out of control awesome! check it out:

today allison and i bought paints (and/or paint samples) to bring to our new apartment. We tested colors on the walls, our rooms are going to be fantastic. As is our living room, and our hallway, and our apartment.

I can't wait to move.

i can't wait for you all to come over and hang in our cute new place.

we spent about 2 hours in the paint department at home depot. and im not even exaggerating.

Also I just found out the subway station in which Michael Jackson filmed "Bad" is my new station, the Hoyt-Schermerhorn (yeah, tell me about it...) station! so rad.

I hung out in Boerum Hill all day today and i LOVE it!

Smith and Court street are amazing, Meg lives a couple blocks away, tons of subways, cool roommates...i never have to leave the area! holy cow I can't wait to move.

I went to meet up with the super today to give him money for the wall they have to put up, and he's so fantastic. I should probably pack or something. This is going to be great!

There is a giant traders joes, and 2 movie theaters that show movies for $6.50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a MUD coffee joint!! in a skateshop!!!

Meg is a fantastic cook. I made marinade today. thats crazy.

today at work...

Today was exciting!

I'm a big Alexis Bledel fan, so I asked my boss if I could go to the studio today since she was coming in with Zach Gilford to promote Post Grad. She's beautiful and really nice. I really liked Zach too, I might start watching Friday Night Lights now because he was really rad.

My job rules.

dodgeball

Tonight was the first game in the dodgeball league Laura and I joined. So fun! SOOO HOOTT in that gym. I'm terrible. I feel sorry for my team.

People are so intense at these games! geesh!

After the games we all go to a bar and hang out. it rules! on the way there tonight there was one block that was crowded with people watching something and taking pics and all that. found out it was lindsay lohan shopping in some store that you couldnt even look into because they put paper over the shop window. sooooo stupid! there were that many people blocking the street for her?! get out of here.

anyway. I want to join the Innertube Water Polo League next, check this out:

I can't wait until the Marshmallow civil war.

This is the group who put on the giant pillow fights and bubble battles and really fun stuff like that. This one coming up in October is AWESOME!!!

read about it...

+=

Civil War - October

Many years ago, widespread unrest in the region and a perplexing overabundance of marshmallows led to a soft armed conflict between opposing sides. Marshmallow pistols, jet-puffed assault rifles, bow-and-mallows and Peep grenades decimated each army until nobody was left alive. This is a reenactment of that epic battle.

Sides will be chosen, marshmallow weapons will be loaded, and chaos will ensue.

We will post plans to make marshmallow shooters on Newmindspace.com, and provide 1/2" PVC tubes for those who cannot make them. It's not too soon to build your marshmallow cannon ;)

Coming in October 2009.

it's not christmas

I got very little sleep last night due to hawaii jet lag. i knew it would be a messy day. I walk into my office and the front desk is decorated with garland, a wreath, and christmas lights!!!! its the hottest day of the year!

supposedly it's something to do with the rockettes. weird. and uncalled for.

then i tripped really hard.

hopefully i'll have a sweet apartment in 2 weeks. i'll find out later this week. it would be awesome.

i'm a terrible updater these days. I'll get back in the swing of things.

but for now, here is a picture of the hawaii sunset taken with my phone.

And here is one of the really pretty foggy mountain:

And one of the landscape:
